One of my Zebra Danios looks ready to drop a huge amount of eggs. She is still in the main tank with 3 other Danios and my other fish.

Should I do anything special? or just leave her to it? How do I know when she is about to drop and should I move the eggs out into a hatching tank if I can catch them?

Sorry for all the questions - but thanks in advance for your help :)

Just leave her. Hopefully the eggs will go uneaten or will fall through the gravel and you'll have little fry :)
Danios are pretty much constantly breeding though so you don't have to worry if this doesn't work out b/c there will be other times.

Also remember that the eggs won't be fertilised until she drops them and this requires a male who is present and "in the mood". Relatively few fish practise internal fertilisation and they are mainly livebearers (though there are a couple of species where the female carries around fertilised eggs which she lays at a later stage). Most fish have to go through a spawning procedure, with both parents cooperating.

it is almost impossible to save danio eggs, they will be eaten almost straight away, they move so fast there is vertually no chance of rearing any to adults unless you put them in a seperate tank with a fine mesh net drapped through the tank a couple of inches below them, the eggs will then float away to the bottom and the danios will not reach them, i have done before and it does work this way, in community or your show tank they just wont make it :good:
