I have just freed my danio (zebra LF) that had gotton stuck under a bit of bog wood. Its fins look more white then normal and it has white patches on its back around the dorsal fin. I wonder if its injured? Its swiiming ok and tried to jump out of the water moments after i freed it. Oh and its part of its tail is missing :( I think these things may be due to it getting stuck I am so worried about it and upset. Its kind of swiiming slower than normal. What do you reckon its chances? Has anyone gone through this before?

I don't know whether he/she is in pain. I put food in and its not interested although its pooping probably form its meal it ate before it got stuck. Do you think the others may attack if they sense its unwell. He/she is swimming with the others and can still swim just not its usual way oh I'm so worried. Poor thig i'm just going to turn the tank light off now. Will its tail grow back if all is well?

yes it will grow its tail back. i had a guppy that resently got brutally attacked by some kribs, and it still living and it had no tail, yet its groing back already. He was also stuck in rocks, for two days.

Im sure your danio will be okay, if my guppy can live through it, and guppies are week, hardy danio should live and be okay.

Aww thankyou you have put my mind at rest a wee bit. Might get some sleep now. He/she was probably stuck for three hours. I have six of them and they are my first fish and they are doing so well. Think thats why I'm so gutted.

you need to add melafix to help the healing process and prevent any wounds becomming infected.

Well this morning he/she is back to its old self and i will buy melafix to take care of the injuries. :look:

Well now it looks as though the danio i thought was having his fins nipped has kinda split in two!! Its the pectoral fin. Everything else is fine with the fish. I'm begining to think that LF danios was a stupid idea and that they really aren't as hardy. I feel i will probably be encountering these sort of problems alot in the future. Or is it something I'm doing wrong? Water tests I've done seem to be fine according to those crappy tetra dip sticks.
The Danio that got stuck is fine at the moment.
So what do you reckon the split fin is all about?

I had a Danio get sucked into a filter (a very violent filter, a filter that turned an ADF into pate) for three months. I'm sure he'll be fine, though he might have a few battle-scars.

Maybe I'm asking things I don't realy want the answers to BUT, out of sheer curiosity, how do you know the danio was stuck in your filter for 3 months? :p

I have longfin danios and they are just as hardy as the regular ones. I don't know about the split fin - any sign of fin rot or anything like that? If not, he/she may have torn it on an ornament while zipping around or maybe there's something nippy in your tank? Do you have regular danios as well as the long-finned and how many do you have, in what size tank? Anyway, provided it doesn't get worse, some melafix will help this heal too. :)

Ta for the replies.
Did the danio stuck in the flter survive?
Well I'm thinking its a possibility he/she may have ripped it on something, there are plenty of hiding spaces but i notice when they swim they keep their fins close to their body. There are no signs of fin rot. I just have 3 pearl danios which are smaller than the LF zebra which i have three of and thats it. Its a 2ft tank, 13.8 uk gallons. I'll just have to hope the melafix works!!!
