Hi everyone, I'm new here, haven't gotten a chance to post in the welcome area yet because I'm having a problem with one of my fish.
I have a 35 gallon tank with several tropical fish, including 2 of the danio glofish. I just put one in a quarantine tank because it has a big black spot on the top of its head. The black spot has been there for about two weeks, and recently I had treated my whole tank for fin rot I thought maybe that treatment would rid of it. All my other fish are healthy now... except my one danio whose black spot has not disappeared, but it hasn't gotten any larger or spread. I have no idea what it is and cannot find any illness describing this mysterious spot. I know its not hole in the head for sure, and the only other symptoms that just showed up last night, is that my fish has had fin clamp where it keeps its fins constantly close to its body. I tried to get pictures best I could, but my fish is still very active despite the fin clamping and is very fast so I had to hold him in a net underwater to get a closer picture- although he is not showing any fin clamping in the pictures, as soon as he was free in the tank it was back to that. Thanks to anyone that can help!

P.s. I should mention I have aquarium salt in with my fish, I know some illnesses and stress can be helped with it, but it doesn't seem to make a difference with whatever this is.

Hi - welcome to the forum. Sorry you are having trouble. Would you be able to tell us the water stats? (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate) How old is the tank? What I'm getting at is asking whether the filter has been cycled. If not, it could be that elevated levels of ammonia are building up and making the glofish sick.

I'll have to get back to you with that, it may not be until tomorrow. But I can tell you I just reset the whole tank. I cleaned everything, put in fresh water and let it run with a filter a few days before putting my fish back in after I treated everyone with fin rot (this was treated in a separate tank so I could put fresh water in and let my normal tank get going for a few days).

I don't have a full water test kit to check nitrates, nitrites, ammonia and such, but I do have some basic PH strips and my tank, as well as my quarantine tank is at a 7. I know that doesn't say much, but its all I can get until I can get a full test kit tomorrow.

Take A sample of your tank water to the LFS, and ask them to write the readings down for you.

Do you have any snails in the tank?

Is it a spot of patch?

Black spots can be due to digging, injury, parasite.

Take a look here.
