I went to my LFS today to pick up a few female guppies. There were only 2 left so she bagged them up for me. Then she sspotted one *misplaced* in another tank and scooped that one up for me too. I get home and get them settled and thought one looked a little different. I started doing some research but couldn't find a guppy like her. Took a break and had some dinner and did some laundry and then checked on the fish. Everyone's tails had chunks taken out of them! The only one fine was her!! Did more digging only to find she is a mosquito fish!! I took her out promptly but geesh! I will never make that mistake again. I read that they can even kill guppies. How long do you think it will take for everyone's tails to mend?

The odd mosquito fish / Gambusia affinis often turn up in the UK lfs. as you have found out they

are very nasty fin nipping fish,  if  it’s only little chunks taken out of them  tails will mend in no time.

For the most part there are just chunks missing. I do have 1 fry about 2 months old whose tail is almost completely gone. Just a few spikes. Guess we'll have to see hoe he does. He still swims pretty well.

Question....should I add some sort of medicine to the tank to aid in healing? Or just stick with making sure the water is tip top shape?
