Got this off a 'reputable' ebay seller. Doesnt look too good.

Wondering if I can nurse it back to health. How would I go about this?

You sure that guy is "reputable?"

I thought reputable meant that they were highly recommended and that their products are suppose to be good?

Did you email the guy? Maybe he will send you another batch if he really is reputable. Sorry about your troubles..but I think that java fern is dead. No way to nurse that bad to life i'm afraid.

Dont throw away any of the broken off leafy bits, float them in your tank and with luck they may grow small plantlets on the leaf edges, which can then later on be grown on.
Ditto

Upon further thought :
It looks as though you may have two bits of root (with rootlets) in that collection.
I wonder what other plant growers here might think of this following :

Sometimes damaged plants waste a lot of energy trying to support damage leaf structure. So, in "ordinary" gardening it is often wise to cut off all foliage when planting out new plants.
I wonder if the same may apply here, ie. remove all the damaged leafy green bits off one of those roots and hope that it will thus be encouraged to make new young growth ? Just a thought, 50% chances and all !

I was thinking that myself. Ive done it before with my anubias so it shouldnt be that different.

Man, sorry i recomended him! Thats shocking! Id explain in my feedback I wasnt happy with that sort of quality. :( Disapointing to say the least...
