Hi,

I have posted a picture of my new betta superdelta betta that I got today in another post, whose fins were lets say rather damaged, however he was exactly the colours I have been planning to get and didn't want to waste the opportunity of rescuing this little guy!

Is there any medication that I can get that will help to heal his fins? Also since I got him home I noticed theres a small bit of white on both pectoral fins - it could be his coloring, but again can anyone suggest anything I can add to the water to be safer rather than sorry

Melafix bettafix?

Cheers,
YT

You can use aquatic salt and melafix to help his fins. About white bits on his fins you realy need to post pics of him, that way it will be much easier to help you out. Good luck :good: :good:

Hi
Yep, a bit of melafix and very regular water changes will help wonders :good:

Hi :) It was really difficult to get a pic of his fins, but I've done my best, really didn't want to stress this guy out too much with the camera flash and all that so tried to limit the attempts - hope these pics help.

Hi mate

From the pictures it doesn't look to bad :good: It could just be his natural colouring.
If it was fin rot it would look more black, so i would say, just keep up the water changes and use melafix. Keep an eye on him, but if your worried give us a shout :good:

I dunno bronzecat - I've had whiteline finrot - looked exactly like that. It's a real *****, I lost one platy to it (top quality breeder) and another has serious damage to her fins, they never grew back right. That betta's fins are nowhere near as bad as my platies and it might even be something different but I'd try and fix it just in case. I cured it in the platy that survived using seawater dips 30 mins. Not sure if a betta can stand that much salt for that long - what do other people say?

Hi
It just doesn't look too bad at all, from the picture that is. Tykers fishes fins look pretty even along the edges. I'd be careful about treating something i couldn't identify, it could actually make it worse. Netty's Taro got a case of finrot after spawning, and as soon as we identified it as finrot we treated accordingly. Recovery from finrot can take ages, and the fin can grow back a different colour at first. Taro's are still recovering 2 months after spawning!

So I guess what i'm saying is, try not to treat with meds until you're pretty sure of the diagnosis :good:

Agree Andy_j, indian almond leaf may be of benefit.

Just checking I have got this right before I start treating "Archie" (the name I've give my fighter)

I'm going to treat him with Melafix - and aquarium salt to help heal the damaged fins - however I'm going to refrain from treating any infection or fin rot until it becomes more obvious or identifiable.

On the Directions for use for the melafix it says

"Dose daily for 7 days, after 7 days make 25% water change - continue treatment if neccacary"

I was actually planning to do 25% water changes at least every other day - should I still do this during treatment?

Where can I get Indian Almond Leaves from in UK?

Cheers,
Lee.

That will be fine as long as you treat with the melafix after the water changes :good:

You can buy IAL on ebay or if you PM Modaz from this forum, he has some for sale too.

That sounds just fine. Some people advice that melafix is to strong for bettas, so I never give full dose. Maybe half a dose or so. Not sure is that true, but better safe then sorry. Someone else on here may know better, so if I`m wrong please say so.

Water has been changed Added aquarium salt and melafix-I'm sat here with my fingers crossed that I've done everything right  and will test water shortly :good:

might just be that photo but he looks kinda thin to me, is he eating and pooping ok?

Was this the photo? I removed it (sorry) because the question I was asking to much related to a different post that I have running on the boards. Yeah he seems to be eating quite well - he's always picking at stuff on in the gravel too!

From that picture, I don't think you have any fin rot. I think that's just his color. Still, melafix and salt won't hurt him. :)
