hi I am new to the forum.

I have a damaged Blue Platy.

Had my 1yr old nephew round yesterday and he pressed on tank and rock fell over and trapped both my blue platies.

I noticed and lifted the rock. It must have been max 2 mins.

They darted out. 1 was more damaged than other and had grazes on one side.

This one is sat at the bottom now alot although she does come up to feed. The other is darting around fine as she did although she seems to have a dark blu spot appeared, almost like a bruise.

I have added some Stress Coat last night that seems to have sorted her grazes out alot but I am still worried about her.

could it be that she is still a little shocked?

Thanks in advance,

Paul.

COuld be pretty stressed about the accident. But i would watch carefully and if the wounds do not heal quickly then i would try melafix or similar to help with the healing. The rock could also have caused internal damage that could be the reason why it is staying near the bottom. Hope everything works out. :)

What other fish do you have in the tank? Any catfish??

If there are no catfish in the tank I would add some aquarium salt...this will help healing of the external injuries as well as help prevent bacterial infections....it may also help if their swim bladders have been damaged in any way....you need to use aquarium salt as opposed to table salt which contains chemicals such as anti-caking agents that are toxic to fish!!

I am sure they will be fine.....I wouldn't use medication unless it is absolutely necessary

Well after 2 doses of Melafix my blue platty, blue, is swimming around with the other fish as normal. :)

Could anyone recommend whether I should continue with the course of treatment or stop the treatment now?

Paul.
