I have a single Pearl Danio and aa single Zebra Danio in my tank at present. I bought them both at the same time and they have been living peacefully for about 8/9 weeks now.

Tonight however, the Pearl is going bonkers, chasing the zebra around the tank and generally harrassing it. Is this normal for Danios? Or maybe they are doing some mating thing - do they interbreed with each other? I have no idea what sex they are though LOL

Just wanting to check really that its normal behaviour?

My water stats 10 mins ago were:
PH = 7.6
NitrIte = 5.0
NitrAte = 0
Ammonia = 0

Thanks

Your tanks still cycling so can't add anymore yet, danio do bettter in large groups.
I would do an immediate water change.
What test kit are you using.
How many gallons is the tank.

Just want to make sure you havent got your nitrites mixed up with nitrates.

?? I cycled my tank before adding fish - I added the fish at the end of Nov/beg Dec. I use the liquid master testing kit. And no, I don't have the NitrAtes and NitrItes mixed up lol I do 25% water changes weekly.

And I dont want to add more fish - just wondered why the Pearl Danio has started harrassing the Zebra :)

If you don't have the nitrites and nitrates mixed up your tanks saying not cycled.
Danio do need to be in biigger groups.

danios do chase each other even in groups...it's a dominance thing....but danios need to be in groups of 6 or more ideally!

Ok so you got me thinking - I tested it again (just in case lol) - results the same NitrIte 0 and NitrAte 5

I thought that was good - but am a newbie so if you can explain it to me in a little more detail I would be grateful

Thanks

That fine then if nitrite 0, in your first post you had nitrite at 5.

OOOOPs.........just went back and read my first post :blush: obviously typed them in wrongly (note to self - check errors before hitting post) :blush:

does that make it better?

my danio's are constantly chasing each other, no damage is ever done though, as for your water stats, they seem fine.

two danio's are better than just having one, at least they can interact with each other, i've never seen true "bullying" with Danio's it's always more of a playful thing

Yes lol.
Maybe want to think of adding more danio if you have the space, as you havent said how many gallons or litres the tank is,

Its in my Sig :D

But its 50L (about 11 gallons?)

could I have another couple of Zebra Danios do you think? or will that take me to overstock? Could be a good way of pleading with Hubby for a bigger tank LOLOL

Sorry didn't notice sig lol.
You could squeeze a few more danio in.

You have molly fry I would leave it if your'e keeping them as if you have males and females they will interbreed and be over run with fry,
