Hum pity no shipping; they are 1000 miles from me.

I’m jealous!

I post for those folks who may live close enough to attend. This year the Catfish Convention is being held in Seattle and I live in NY. I do not fly any more. My fist plane trip was in the late 1950s, in the 1980s I had to fly a lot for work and since I left that job I vowed I would never again set foot in an airplance that would be taking off.

The CatCon in 2024 was in northern VT which was a 5+ hour drive for me. After driving out and back to the 2003 OCA in Cleveland I vowed that about a 4 hour drive was going to be my limit. So I skipped the 2024 convention and will not make the 2026 one either. I am not very active with plecos now but the reason to attend is one gets to see people they have not done so since the prior convention. People fly over from Europe. So CatCon is where I met Jools of Planetcatfish, Ingo Seidel, Stefan Tanner to name just a few.

Often the weekend events will have speakers who are well knows to the hobby and who have their room and transport covered as well as some compensation in most cases. If you can make the Seattle event here are to speakers booked so far:

Ian Fuller will be attending and doing two talks, on breeding Corydoradinae catfish, and on Collecting in Peru!
Our second speaker is Angela Haggard, PhD. student at LSU, who is going presenting on Asian catfish! (Narelle on Planetcatfish)
Our third speaker is Ingo Seidel, who will be lecturing on otos and whiptails!
Our fourth speaker is wood catfish enthusiast Sean Hensley!

The best part of this is one can actually sit and chat with folks like the above. All of them started out just like you and me, as hobbyists. I think that is something one never leaves behind as they become some of the experts whose names we know. I credit Ingo Seidel and Dale Ernst when we were all at CatCon for getting me back on track with my plecos when they had stopped spawning.

I'll travel for a good convention... but no plans now. One of these years I'll get to one of the big European killie shows. It costs the same as going to an American one, and the locations seem very interesting.

That looks like a first rate local auction.
