Every time i go to my lfs we buy a couple of fish, kind of a souvenir :p
My mum has really started taking an interest in fish so she bought some guppys to go in my tank.
So when i had bought all my medicines for my sick Ram we went home.
The bag had obviously leaked a tiny bit but i didnt notice, as many of you will know fish normally come wrapped in a dark bag (In this case paper bag) In order not to stress the fish.
As i picked this up at home a hole split in the paper bag and the plastic one with the fish in it landed on the floor and exploded.
In a panick a picked up the 3 guppys with my hand and stuck them in the tank.
After i added some melafix.
Is there anything else i should do?

What a nightmare, well you didn't have alot of choice just hope there wasn't a swing in ph, how are they acting, watch out for whitespot.

Your biggest concern right now is to minimize stress. Your fish did not have a chance to aclimate to the tank (not blaming you on this one), so that will add additional stress to them. Right now, I would keep the light off and the room dark. This will help minimize stress. If I remember correctly, you have a pleco, so you can't add salt. Keep a close eye on them, and watch for any signs of illness.

Always you two that answer on my posts  (Cheers Guys)
Like i said i'll update you on the ram, She is doing ok actually getting some colour back and attempting to eat.
I have been feeding her microworms everynight.
I have been emptying the container 2/3 times a day.
I am medicating the tank with melafix and got some Anti Internal Bacteria Med like you suggested,
But am worried about medicating both at the same time?
Have taken out the carbon sponge.
Anything Else i can do for the ram?

The guppys are swimming fine, One with torn fins, Think the mela-fix should sort that.
Occasionaly going to the plants for some cover but apart from that they seem ok.
Let's hope i didn't damage their slime coat by picking them up, If i had time to think about it i would of used a different method but i was panicking,
Anything else i can do for the guppy's?
James

You can use melafix with an internal bacteria med, as melafix treats the outside and the other med threats the inside.

It sounds like you are doing all you can. Fish's slime coat is very sensitive. Simply netting a fish damages their slime coat. No matter how you picked them up, some damage would have been done. Honestly, i would have done the exact same thing, picked them up and put them into my tank. Just keep an eye on them. Sometimes stress coat can help, however, I tend to be cautions of adding too much stuff to my water at once.

Don't forget to increae aeration.

im not trying to be neg but if you had a sick ram that need meds why were you buying more fish

From what I remember, the Ram has been in isolation for a while.

thats cool then :D

i think the most stress the fish would have gone throught would have been the drop and the bag poping dont forget we are told not to tap on the tank glass as it stresses fish so a big drop and a bag popping must have been very stressfull

the fish should be fine thought as it has happend to me before but the bag didnt pop

Lol, I think i was lucky to actually getting them in they were squirming and jumping!.
The ram is in isolotation like ttfftt said :)
And i think all the time i can encourage my mum into fish keeping is the tim when i can start getting bigger and bigger tanks for my plecs :hey:

Lol my dad thinks they're cool but once had a disaster when i went away for a week he decided to do a water change cleaning filter sponges in tap water and also the water he added back again.
Had to add about 100bottles of cycle lol

The reason you added so much cycle is it just doesn't work. Pure waste of money.

My dad tried to add water to my tank once, he asked how much dechlorinator to add, then ignored my directions, added 3 drops for probably 15 gal. luckily i didn't loose too many fish, though i was PISSED when i found out
