i have just got a large container of CLEAR AMMONIA. it says taht the ingredients are just SOFT WATER and AMMONIA. it also states on the bottle that there is no PHOSPHATES (whatever that is). can anyone tell me if this is an ok ammonia to use? i already have added about 6 drops to my 33 gal. it does foam a little bit when i shake it.
please help me.

As long as it contains to additives or dyes, you're fine. You just need the cheap, god-awful smelling, clear, house-hold type ammonia. If the stench from the open bottle makes you want to gag, you got the right one.

Shake the bottle vigorously. If the bubbles at the top don't go away pretty quickly, don't use it. Sounds like you've got pure ammonia though.

That's a good rule of thumb, I'll have to remember that.

LOL - My husband wanted to do that when we were cycling our tank. His theory was "What...it's all ammonia...."
