i am about to cycle my 25L tank but i was wondering could i just use the filter media from my dads pond? im aware that you can take some out of a established filter. would taking some out the ponds filter work the same ?

I THINK you can (not sure though), but you are risking introducing other 'nasties' that might cause an issue in your aquarium.

Yes, you can, just raise the temperature slowly.

I think that most nasties would die after two weeks without a fish host.
