Hi to evryone. I have five fish in my tank while it is cycling(108ltr tank) and i am testing water everyday and doing a 20% water change every other day. I got up this morning and found one of my 2 zebra danios dead unfortunately. I know this is possible while cycling but should i replace that fish now or just wait until the tank has cycled? And, if i lose any more or even all of the fish what should i do then? Introduce more hardy fish or will it continue to cycle without now the process has started? My water parameters today are as follows. Ammonia 0.25 Nitrite 0.25 and Nitrate 20ppm.Thanks.GRJ :shout:

id probably wait until the tank has fully cycled. from what ive read elsewhere on here 0.25 ammonia is still too high

That's why fishless cycling is preferable; you might not mind losing fish in the process, sadly the fish don't get a choice.

again, from other advice on other bits of this forum, it has been suggested that you either rehouse these fishies until your tank is cycled. or run the risk of losing them all :( uphill struggle.

GRJ; buy some 'Seachem Prime' from your LFS, it will detoxify the poisonous chemicals in your tank while still allowing your tank to cycle. If that is you still are going to cycle fish in....

is seachem prime like ammo-lock? broader range though?

stick with just the fish you have for now, however remember the less fish you have the slower the cycle will be, and the less bacteria you will build up therefore the more likely you are to have a mini cycle when adding new fish later.

keep monitoring your levels, if the cycle seems to stall you may have to consider adding more fish to increase the bio load

Good point, didn't check the size.... :X
