I'm in the cycling process and my ammonia level is around 6ppm, It's stayed there a week. Im just curious, my water hasnt been treated with anything, other then being dechlorinated. By just adding ammonia will it start the cycle or do I have to add at least a bit of beneficial bacteria to jump start it.

Ammonia alone is enough to get the cycling started. But, adding some sand/gravel from an established tank or some filter media from an established filter would greatly reduce the cycle time. There is a pinned topic about people who are willing to donate some beneficial bacteria if you live close to them.
