What should my ammonia be on the second day of cycling?

Are you cycling with fish? If so it will probably still be at 0.

If you've had the tank set up with water for a week or so with gravel, plants, filter etc. then it could be fairly low around 2ppm. If you have only just added water andraised the temp then it should be a little higher 4ppm maybe. It really depends upon how many bacteria you have in your filter which is impossible to know. Sometimes they grow quickly, other times more slowly, Id imagine your tank will take between 3 / 4 weeks to fishless cycle.

What are your current ammonia / nitrite readings?
