Hello just thought I'd note: The ten gallon is down to about 1.6 for nitrite, and the 25 has risen to about .8 Nitrite.

A question about the 25 gallon with (if you dont know it has one cichlid and one pleco) fish: Should I be doing daily 25% water changes while it cycles to alleviate the stress of the toxic water on the fish? OR will this just prolong things? Thanks in advance. =]

Small water changes to help the fish out, it will delay the cycle abit.

I havent been adding ammonia (to the fishless 10gallon) Im going to pick some up today. Am I inhibiting the cycling process by not adding it? Does nitrite break down without the addition of ammonia?

You do need ammonia in your tank to start a cycle no you need ammonia to turn into nitrite.

oK just got additional test kits. Today's readings for the 25 gallon (with 2 fish) are as follows:

NO2: .5 mg/L
NO3: 15 mg/L
AMMONIA: 0.6 mg/L

Gettin closer I think...
=]

Yes, just keep an eye on the fish as soon as it gets to the end of the cycle the fish start dieing off, as it took it's toll.

Both my pleco and my cichlid are destined to die? =[

Oh and my 10 gallon is now at: mg/L

NO2 .5
NO3 20
Ammonia: .6

Is it just me or is it kinda hard to tell what shade of purple the tests are some times?
Maybe I'm retarded. ;)

great getting there.

Thank ya! Soon... ::rubbing hands together:: .

So since I have one cichlid in there and a pleco...
What would be my best stocking options for the 25 gallon?

should I stick with cichlid or stray away to something else as the 25 is too small to adequately keep cichlids?

If i go for something else will they co exist with my surviving cichlid until she passes? I read cichlids dont play nicely with other fish. Thanks for any insight u may provide.

Todays 25 gallon #'s Not much movement today. Gettin antsy to start thinking bout new fish. =]

Ammonia: 0
NO2: .3 - .4
N03: 10

The 10 gallon looks like:

Ammonia: 0
NO2: .2
N03: 5

Giving it a vac and 25% water change today then I am going to go take advantage of the last day of two for one fish at the LFS. =]

As for puffers, have you seen those cute little pea puffers that are less than 1 inch long!? I don't know anything about them. But they look too darn cute.
