Cycling question

Hey i am in the middle of the cycling process of my tank and i was wondering if it is normal that on day 14-18 that i have been at a nitrite of 2.0 and ammonia of 8.0. I thought that when the nitrite starts to rise that the ammonia is supposed to go down? Did i do something wrond, by the way i have not added ammonia on these days so i dont understand. Is it supposed to take awhile?

Check your tap for ammonia....

the tap ammonia is 0, plus im not doing any water changes anyways since im fishless cycling

That is a perfectly normal reading depending on how much amonia you are adding, that you have a nitrite reading means the cycle is starting to take place.

Yea but is it normal for the readings not to change for a week?

maybe your test kit can't go higher than 8 ppm....

it is pretty useless to monitor ammonia above 8parts in an aquarium
even the hardiest fish would die within a couple of days

i would guess that's the reason you're only reading 8 for the last few days...
