Hi - New to TFF... I've set up a second tank really to raise my Guppy fry (all 4 of them, but I'm still very proud). I used half my old filter media, half and half gravel, even used the carbon from my old filter that had been in about 10 days, moved a giant moss ball and some plants along with my WCMM that I cycled my original tank with 2.5 yrs ago & 30% old tank water. I've been doing small daily water changes of about 10% and 10 days in no ammonia spike and current readings of;

Nitrite 0
Nitrate 25
pH 7.2
GH 14d
KH 6d

Could using so much from my old tank have established a bacterial colony already? My 1st tank is a 35l Arcadia Arc (3 Guppies & 4 Fry) and my new tank is the Superfish Aqua 40 which confusingly is actually 25 litres with my 4 WCMM (I did have 6 but one was evil and I returned him to the LFS causing much hilarity & 1 just died last week I suspect/hope of old age). When this is up and running I plan to move the clouds back to the bigger Arc and put the 4 fry in the 25l to grow on their own safely. I am getting a 3rd tank so I can separate boys/girls/babies as know how crazy Guppies can be.

Would appreciate your thoughts on if it's possible to get a tank up and running with enough carried over from an exisiting tank?

ps - loving the forum, nice to know I'm not the only crazy hooked on fish :hyper:

lol it sounds to me,in fish terms, you have launched 600 nukes in defence of your little babies lol.

its hard to say wether your in the clear but keep up with the water tests and keep an eye out for symptoms of ammonia poisoning.

i think you went overkill with the seeding of your new tank lol but i would do the same if i were you haha.

keep us posted you lucky swine

oh and :hi:

Thanks for that - I feel lucky :D

I'll keep going with the changes and testing as you suggest for another week as my fry are only 10 days old & if all is OK I'll get them moved after that.

I have to say that all this palaver for 4 tiny fry isn't without it's drawbacks... the washing/ironing/cleaning/hoovering has been neglected in favour of hoovering and cleaning fish tanks :/

Thanks again - you're my first fish friend...

im honoured to be your first, i took your TFF viginity, i will feed it to my fish lol.

Is there a danger that you've taken too much from the old tank's filter, especially as the fry can't impose a massive bio load yet? I thought (warning: beginner) that the max donation was a third?
What are the water stats on the old tank doing?
Miles

I know... Did have a bit of a panic but have 3 big fat female Guppies in the old tank - with the 4 fry in a fry tank. Been testing and getting the same as usual. The fry are growing really fast on crushed flakes and live baby brine shrimp so hoping I've got away with it???

Thanks - I'll keep you posted
