Cycling My Tank

New test results:

ammonia 0 ppm
nitrite 0 ppm
nitrate 20 ppm

I have added a few guppies now to see if this will affect the test results. I will regularly test water now to see if it changes.

Is that nitrate level ok?

That nitrate level is not a problem...there is much debate about how much is too much, but in my opinion anything less than 40 is not too bad. If it gets over that, definitely do a water change to be safe. If you will slowly add your fish to the tank, you probably will not register any ammonia or nitrites at all because of the matured filter you added. If you do see ammonia or nitrites around 1.0 ppm just do a water change. Keep testing the water and before you know it all your fish will be in the tank and the tank will be completely cycled. The whole process should only take about two weeks if the filter you added has substantial bacteria in it.

does "butt" not mean in the UK what it does in America?

Not really. Obviously we know that the the term "butt" is a slang word for "bottom". However we very rarely use it here in England. Depending on where in the country we are from we call it, bum, bottom, backside is a common one, rear end, or probably the most frequent, "A**e".

On a side note, the word "fanny" may be another slang word for "butt" in America but in England we use it as a slang word for the "genitalia" of a woman here in England.

Its quite interesting the differences thare are...

Thankyou :)

That is quite interesting...butt is by far the most common in America and A**e is never used unless someone is using their best English accent. Very interesting...thanks for that information.
