Cycling My Brand Spanking New Juwel Rio 240

Hi, hope someone can help me out. Just over a month a ago i bought a aquastart 500 and basically done everything all wrong due to being a complete novice and basically knew nothing. I took advise from the lfs wich was basically a load of rubbish leaving me with dead fish and the rest being treated with bacterial medicine. This however hasnt stopped me wanting a lovely tank with healthy fish..today i bought a juwel rio 240 and this time im gonna do it right!!

I am going to do a fish less cycle leaving my poorly fish in the other tank BUT i cannot find any ammonia so have added some fish food for now. I have read the pinned stuff on cycling but it still seems complicated.

I have just filled it up and i have conditioned the water. so what next? Sorry no pics cos im crap! i gave read the post on how to take pics but its too hard!

If you go into a large boots store look for this Ammonia its what i used to cycle my tank

I have finally found some pure ammonia!!! i added it today, just one question, is it normal to absolutely stink, i nearly burnt the inside of my nose with it! my liv room stinks of it now, is that normal? i put 25 drops in.

Ammonia will stink, just think what that did to the fish gills, eyes etc on the last tank, and you only sniffed it

the ammonia will go sky high, then slowly drop to zero. Once at zero you do a water change to remove nitrate/nitrite and then you can get fish after that. (in a nut shell)

Obviously be more carefull and test water etc

I know, i do feel really bad for my other fish but they are picking up nicely. I have a full testing kit and will monitor carefully this time round.
