I just bought my girlfriend a 2.5 gallon tank with an undergravel filter. She is going to put a betta in it and we are trying to cycle it quickly. I already have an established turtle tank, so I placed a few stones from my tank in her tank, and also put two pieces of sponge from my filiter in her undergravel filter. I also put about half a gallon of my water into her tank. How long do you think it will take for her tank to cycle? Also how exactly does an undergravel filter work? From what I heard they are pretty crappy. Thanks.

I do not like UGFs, but some people swear by them. For a 2.5 I would look into getting one of the little redsea palm filters. They are a HOB with great water flow. For just a betta What you have done will be great. Just test the water every week and see what happens. I have a 5 gal Betta tank with a biowheel.
