Hi

A totally noob question i know, but hopefully someone will reply, and if you could i would really appreciate it.

I am currently cycling a new 15 gallon tank i got, im 2 weeks into the cycle, i have 3 platies in the tank and they are doing fine so far, what i really need to know is do i make water changes at this stage or wait until the cycle has completed, and if so, how ofton and how much until the tank has cycled.

I wont be adding any more fish for at least another couple of weeks, and maybe only a couple of small ones until the tank has cycled more.

Thanks :)

Hi....only do water changes if you get a high ammonia spike or the fish seem sick. Doing water changes won't hurt the cycle or your fish...it may just prolong the cycle time. If it looks like your ammonia is really climbing and you don't see ANY NITRITE, I'd do a change. Consider 10% changes when cycling. Good luck. SH

when i cycled with fish, i would change about 10-15% of the water everyday when ammonia and nitrite where going up.... took about 6 weeks to complete the cycle

The important thing is to keep testing the water, as ammonia rises can be damaging to your fish before you realise it.

Thanks guys :D

I really appreciate your replys, ill just keep testing the water and wont do any water changes until it is needed.

Thanks again
