Hi, its been awhile since i posted but i have a question. Due to unforseen circumstances i am having to cycle my tank from scratch, i am doing it the proper way and i am well into it the ammonia has done i am waiting for the nitrites to drop they are down to 0.50 so wont be long. Now i read somewhere that you do your water change the day before you add any fish. Is this so, the question is after doing the water change do you still add any ammonia to carry you through till the next day.
Or can you do the water change then go out and buy some fish, your input will be appreciated.

THANKS.

Once the cycle is officially complete, i.e. your ammonia and nitrite are both dropping from 4ppm to 0 in 10 to 12 hours, keep adding ammonia until the day before you get fish. You can do the water change either way. I did mine as soon as the cycle was finished and then added ammonia for another 4 days until I went to the LFS but you can definitely wait until the night before. It's really a matter of which is more convenient and how long it will be before you get fish.
