As I posted previously, my fishless cycle is basically done. As it turns out, a visit to the LFS that I will be getting my stock from had him out of the torpedo barbs I want. He had the sterbai cories and danios, but I don't want to stagger them too far apart for fear of a mini cycle. He will have the barbs early this week. That is fine because it will allow another week for the cycle to become more stable (what's 1 more at this point). My question is in regard to pH. I noticed it has dipped a little, down from 7.8-8 to ~7.4. I'm sure this is due to the KH dropping from 70ppm to 20ppm. Can I do a partial water change to maintain the KH and pH for the extra week of cycling, until I do the large one next week before adding my fish? My mind tells me yes, because this is what I will be doing weekly anyway, which should prevent any crashes. I hope I explained it OK

yup you're certainly getting your head around all this now aren;t you!

you're quite right, i would perhaps hold off on the water change and keep monitoring though, if it gets down to 7 or lower then do a water change but 7.4 is nothing to worry about.

Thanks MW. Yes I guess I really am getting into this head and shoulders! Apparently, my reading last night may have been a little skewed(gotta love those tests!). Checked again this morning and read the normal 7.8 again. I'll leave it as is. Hopefully before this time next week, something besides some bubbles will be swimming in that tank :D !
