Ok, so I have my betta in a 5 gallon tank, and I was reading up on in the betta section, and I read you could do either 50% or 100% water changes, does this mean cycling a betta tank is not necessary? Sorry if this is a dumb question.

As I understand it, you only have to cycle if you have a filter - I may be wrong.

If yo dont have a filter then you dont need to cycle it, as the only reason you cycle a tank is to get the bacteria building up in the filter..

Hope this helps, mikey

yea you dont have to cycle it but personally I dont do 50 or 100% water changes at a time i do a 30% every other day. But thats just me.

i have bettas since 10 years ago in cuba and now here in florida i always do full water change every 7 days and my bettas never been sick with any bacteria...Never you know what that mean ????? Never

Kinda off topic but some people put their own urine in the tank to cycle it o___o some put fish poop. iunno if it work sthough

Uh . . . nasty.

I can see how it would work, though. Our urine is ammonia, after all. I would really hate to have to smell that tank afterwards.

IMHO - I think you should cycle a 5gal - because doing 100% water changes on it is annoying. Luggin' a 5gal sucks - maybe I'm complaining cause I don't have upper body strengh

I say if you have time - do the cycle.

If you want to keep it easy and not test the water etc. . . do 100%

It's really up to you.
