if i was to fill up a new tank,
and add a mature filter inside, would i be safe to put a couple of fish in straight away?
cheers

Hi Matthew Lee Newell :)

Yes, that's what is called cloning a tank. When you do that the beneficial bacteria will instantly support about the same amount of fish as it did in the first tank. For example, if you have 10 guppies in a tank and move half the media to another tank, it should be fine to put five guppies in the tank. To be on the safe side, only add four to start and test your water for the first few days. Wait a couple of weeks for the tank to settle down and then add more fish gradually. The bacteria you started will reproduce to keep up with the additional load. :D

thanks guys,
im going to put 8 molly fry into a new 70L tank all to themselves.
arnt i nice?! lol i just fancy'd keeping my first set of fry, nice to just say i raised them i guess.
so my media will be more than good enough. seems as the fish are like half an inch
