Hi All
My female Firemouth has a 2cm cut just on her head.I belive she got it when she got a little curouise at my EMB spawning and got bite!She seems to be Alright and is still "Danceing" around my male getting ready to spawn!Should i put her in a hacthary and treat her with melfix are just wait n see?

yes treat with melafix as this acts as a wound sealer
and helps prevent secondary infections.

I know very little about stresscoat, but I belive it
has similar properties to melafix, in the way that
it seals wounds that is.

maybe a stresscoat user could confirm this.

Personally, I'd just wait and see, but using stresscoat certainly wouldn't hurt anything. My oscar got a huge cut on his head from scraping it on the tank lid when he was little and it healed up fine all by itself. As long as the wound looks clean and free of infection I wouldn't worry about it too much.

beautiful thing about new worlds is that they are for the most part a bump and bruise kind of fish IMO. as a general rule when my fish would get into scraps I would do a half a dose of melafix for a couple days but increased water changes would be more than enough to keep infection away from any open wounds.
