Hey all,

I have a 6 gallon planted tank with anubias nana, java fern, crypts and swords. I dose with C02 and ferts.

Ever since i added all of the plants (about three months ago), the temp goes from 80 F in the morning to 82 F mid day and then back to 80 at night. I have never seen it drop off below 80 even with the heater unplugged.

Before i added the plants, the heater kept the temp at around 76 F to 78 F. Does the metabolic processes of the plants produce enough heat to raise the water temp? The tank is kind of heavily planted.

Tnaks for your time.

I have never heard this, it would be great if the plants did as I wouldn't need to buy a heater everytime it broke. Where is you thermometer positioned?

Maybe by a tiny, tiny, tiny amount. A negligable amount that no fish or plant would even notice. Some thermometers would not see a difference. If anything, fish would produce more heat than plants.
I agree that it's just a change in the seasons.

:good:
Yeah, probably about 0.01 degrees or something ridiculous.
It will be the season like mentioned and it could also be the fact that your lighting may increase the temperature while it is on throughout the day.

I guess it might be the weather but the room where the tank is positioned is air conditioned and we keep it at 75 F. Lol, this weird but I only noticed the temp rise as I added more plants. Maybe my thermometer is faulty? I still have my heater unplugged and the temp goes from 80 F in the morning to 82 F mid-day back to 80 at night.

Thanks for all of your time everyone!
