I have a big fearful of tropical fish because whenever I get tropical they die. :/ I don't know why... Well not always just those stupid neon tetras... (the ones I like)

but yeah.. 72 US gallon tank... I was thinking of adding the following fish. Please tell me if it is good not nor (I will slowly find out for my self via research)

Angelfish (I dunno what kind I am a noob, I will take recommendations)

Loaches:
5-6 Blue Loaches
5-6 Clown Loaches
comments: I have yet to find the correct PH for these guys

Tetra Shoal:
(preferable neon)
Comments: Why might mind die? PH of 6.4 and all other parameters good

Black Ghost Knife: I am thinking maybe.. it is a 72 bow gallon and 18 inches wide in the middle... is that big enough? Would it mess with angles?

Hi,
Just a couple of comments. Firstly clown loaches can grow to 12" adult size so I'd think that 6 of them would be way too much for this tank. Second angel fish and neon tetras are generally not kept together as angel fish feed on neons in the wild. Although I have heard of it being done, I would not want to try it myself. You may have more success with cardinal tetras(look alot like neons) and angels especially if you raise them from a small size together. The angels then may not see the tetras as food, apparantly also true for the neons. Being a predatory fish, one can assume that the angels will try to eat any fish that fits in their mouth, or so i've heard. I'm sure they would look good together if you can make it work.

As for the black ghost knife, I see no reason why you couldn't have one, just be mindful of the compatability as they are nocturnal predators and may clean out the other fish. Also they are reportedly a fairly sensitive fish too, so maybe not a good choice until you can figure out why your neons keep dying.

You have it right, do some research on your potential choices as far as size, temperment, compatability, and water parameters and you will end up making the right choices to ensure success. Personally, I like the idea of biotope themes rather than a kaleidoscope approach, but to each their own.

Best of Luck

I agree with the above - clowns get too big, blue loaches can get aggressive but there are loaches that would fit in nicely. B kubotai, B histrionica & B robusta for starters.
Angels will eat small tetras as will Black ghost knife fish and your tank is too small for a BGK which can potentially get longer than the tank is wide.

Before you get any more fish we need to work out why fish keep dying.
What fish have you got?
What have you lost?
How long has the tank been running?
What filter etc?
What are the tank water parameters & your tapwater parameters please?

Sue

What fish have you got? Betta - 1 Neon Tetra - 6 glowlights (in my experiance the most hardy) - 5 black neon tetras
What have you lost? 5 neon tetra
How long has the tank been running? several years
What filter etc? Eclipce 2 filter
What are the tank water parameters & your tapwater parameters please?
A,N,N = 0
PH (as of this morning) 6.8 (needs a yeast change in the co2 can)

(tap = the same only Ph is 7.0)

What size is the tank? - from my searches the Eclipse 2 filter is for 25 gallons not 72 gallons.

What water treatments do you use & what is the KH & GH?

Bettas & angels are not very compatible.

well currently the only tropical I have is 15 gallons. KH is 4 from Tap (high in tank because of co2) GH is I dunno... how do you use a GH dropper?

What is the tank kH?
What GH kit have you got?
Are you using strips for the others?
How heavily planted?
What rock? What decor & substrate?
Water change regime?

the 72 gallon has no reads because it is currently in a fishless cycle. :/

As for the 15 with fish in it...

What is the tank kH? 28 - 33
What GH kit have you got? API dropper kit
Are you using strips for the others? No, all API dropper
How heavily planted? 15 has about 50% plantage at the bottem and 70% at the top (wisteria is crazy wide)
What rock? What decor & substrate? Rock? I dunno.
Water change regime? Once a week just because. Though it is not really needed to remove any toxins.

What is causing the high KH in the tank?
Is it from the rocks or are you adding a buffer?

I'm wondering if this is the cause of your neon problem. How long do they last when you buy them?

:/ well.. I have co2 in the tank... I think that is it. :/

CO2 can't affect kH - it will lower pH.

The KH must be coming from somewhere.
