I have a 20L tank fitted with an internal filter in which I am trying to breed apple snails. Would I be able to cultivate live Daphnia in there too or would they get sucked up by the filter?

You'd probably end up loosing them in the filter. They go with the flow. I have a 2 gallon container full of them right here next to me as we speak.

What do you feed them? I'm planning on keeping them in a small pond this summer. I would assume they would feed on any algae blooms? I would feed them as much as possible, and collect and mosquito-egg rafts that ended up in the water, and then when winter started to come around, collect all the daphnia and freeze them. Sorry to hijack your thread... :*)

They do best on green water, but algae is good too. If you're having problems you can feed them some yeast too. I keep a light on them at all times and I add dirty tank water to their container when I do water changes.

I think they would definately be sucked up by the filter...just get a rubbermaid tub and stick a light strip on top
