I have set up a new tank, reared a White Cloud Minnow from an egg that came in on a plant which I bought, got 5 Harlequins 10 days ago and got 5 Pentazona Barbs on Saturday.

When I feed flakes the Harlequins all dive for the food and eat it before the other fish get a chance to eat. Should I put some cucumber in the bottom of the tank which the other fish might get a chance to eat? If so, how do I get the cucumber to stay on the bottom of the tank? If not, what should I do?

Mick.

You can buy food screws things from lfs to hold veg down.
All I do is get a plant weight and put a rubber band around the cucumba, but mine don't like cucumba so don't bother.

For my BN I stick the cucumber on a fork and drop it in the tank. Make sure the fork is face down though because if the spikes are up they could lodge themselves on it.

Thanks Wilder. Should I give it a go, or is there something else you would recommend?

Peas are alot more better for fish they help them keep going to the toilet, good for constipation.
Boil frozen peas for a few minutes, let cool down, pop out of shell, mush between fingers into small bits, then add to the tank.

Thanks for that. My concern is that the Harlequins seem to be eating everything before the Pentazona Barbs get a chance. Is there anything that the Barbs would get a chance at before the Harlequins scoff the lot?

Lol I've jsut bought some more harlequins and they are greedy.
The peas tend to float every where so there bound to get a nibble.

Thanks very much for your help.

I see you're from South Yorkshire, I'm in Leeds in West Yorkshire, not too far away. I knew you'd understand my technical jargon as in 'scoff the lot'! lol.
