My fish wont eat cucumber, i think its just because its new to them. I put a slice on a wooden stick and still nothing. Ive tried this twice and left it in for around 1-2 hours. Will it fowl the water if i leave it in all night? Also when will they start to take a liking to it?

What kind of fish do you have?

They might not know what it is yet, if you've never fed it before.

I leave my cucumber in for about 4 hours without any problems. I use raw cucumber slices about 1" thick, weighted down so they don't float.

They may never develop a fondness for cucumber, but most fish will given time.

Ok, thanks.
At the moment i have 5 neons, 2 male guppies, 2 kulhi loaches and 2 amano shrimp.

The guppies will probably nibble at the cucumber. Tetras have been known to eat cucumber, but my Rummynose tetras don't seem that interested.

Tetras are mainly insect eaters I believe (correct me, folks). Guppies are omnivores and do like veggies but IME find cucumber a bit chewy. Try peas or broad beans instead; just ordinary frozen peas lightly boiled deshelled and lightly crushed or chopped. I give this once a week instead of their usual flakes, and my guppies go ecstatic.

Tetras are considered omnivores for the purposes of fishkeeping. I don't know much about what they eat in the wild, but Im sure insects are high on the list.

Even insectovores or piscivores will nibble on plant matter to help with digestion.

My otos like zucchini and cucumber, and I've seen my apistos and rummynoses take a few bites.

I found it took a little bit of perserverance with cucumber, not much, but the first few times it did just lie there uneaten, once the fish get used to it being there and provided of course they are not full from other feeds they will get inquisitive and take a nibble - mine did anyway :D

If they don't like it don't worry about it. Try something else. Frozen spinach, peas, zucchini...

What do u weight the cucumbers down with

I just weighed them down with string and aquarium pebbles, it worked as far as weighing down, but I dont think the fish are taking to them yet

Thanks for all your replies, i appreciate them.
Also i dont think their ever going to take a liking to cucumber, ill try what you suggested (peas etc).
