I'm no expert on this but I keep it in there until they have finshed it.
Depending on how big you BN is depends on how think a peice you put in.

My Bristlenose's feed when they are hungrey which isn't always at night, but then again the tank light doesn't come on till I get home and feed them at around 5pm

Thanks, probably should have mentioned it is a 55 gallon. The bn pleco is pretty small about 1.5 inches long, but i put a small slice in. By small i chopped a 1 inch slice and then sliced that in half and took the seeds out? It is midnight here so i was thinking of leaving it in until the morning...does that sound ok?

I've kept cucumber and zuchinni slices for a couple of days in my tanks; I've done this numerous times over the years without any problems.

Hey wendy,
good to hear from you again :good: thanks a lot for reassuring me....i appreciate it! I didnt think it would be a problem but the last thing you want is a polluted tank you know? well thanks to everyone, i am sure he will find it overnight!

i gota agree with the above posters, i tend to leave it in till its all gone and retrieve the lead than. but i do keep a Cray and rotting veg is their fav meal.

I take it out after a day or two, because eventually it starts to go fuzzy and theyve ate most of it, if left in any longer then taken out it just breaks up and gos everywhere and looks a mess.

Thank you everyone for the prompt reply! One of the many reasons i love this site!! Anyway, one more silly question, should i place the vegtable clip at the bottom of the tank or stick it on the side? Probably doesnt matter but i was just curious because he doesnt seem to be too interested in it

i also agree with the ^^^^^

the longest i have left a piece of cucumber in is about 36 hours and there was no water pollution in this time

i would put the cucmber on/near the floor of the tank

it may take a couple of goes for him to work out what it is and really get interested so just give him time.

never have to take any out of our tank, hungry plec and syno gobble it all up within 24hrs or so

My CAE tends to make a mess. If I leave cucumber in longer than a couple of days the soft seed centre gets everywhere and makes a mess, it then takes months to really get rid of it.

i only leave my cucumber in for 1 day, as i have had messes in the past that are a nightmare :)

lol has anybody reading this thread ever had a "mess" through leaving cucumber in the tank too long? i know dont know many people who keep fish, apart from on the net. but none of those who do have ever mentioned this. and as i have said, in my tank it never last long enough.

I'll sometimes leave slices in for two-three days but that's rare. Five Bristlenoses, two being adults, go through even 4 decent sized slices in a matter of hours. I did find the rind from a squash that had been broken off and left for over a week. It wasn't fuzzy or rotted but there was none of the flesh in it either.
