What tipes of fish all eat cucumber?

I have Platies,Swordtails,Neons,Cory's, Blackskirt tetras,Yoyo loach, Danios...check the sig....

Will any of my fish eat it? :/

Thx

the loach and the mollys may well have a go. give it a try just take it out after 24 hrs and you`ll be fine. even if your fish don`t eat it at least you`l have healthy sandwiches for work next week :p

You just made me gag. It goes so slimy after 24 hours in the tank... not to mention the fish poo.. oh

LMAO

I put courgette in for the oto and found one of the danios scoffing at it!

Was worried for a moment at the white poo and then thought about it!

All my fish seem to have a good go at it, particularly the golden barbs, but then they will try to eat anything you care to put in the tank, even the thermometer!

You could blanch it in some boiling water first to help soften it to make it more palletable.

i also make my own food from chopped prawns and spinach just make sure its all very finely chopped or they will ignore the spinach

I feed it to my snails on a regular basis, and the loaches, betta and the shrimp will all pick at it a little bit. I'm sure that all fish need a little bit of greens in their diet, but we can't offer the selection of water plants their used to. (I for one can't offer any or the snails would eat it.)

A good trick is to slice the cucumber into thick slices, lay them flat on a cookie sheet, and freeze them, then freezer bag them. They'll stay separated, keeps for about two months, and will be soft enough for the fish to eat without having to blanch it first.

My platties and mollies loved it, but it took them some time to figure it out. I also have clown loaches and they were on it the second it hit the bottom! Of course, my pleco couldnt be torn from his peice of cucumber!

The trick is getting it to sink. You can go to a LFS and ask for some of the weights that they hold plants down with, or use a spoon to keep it down. (Obviously a knife isnt a good option and you shouldnt just be dropping forks in the tank unless you belive in spearfishing!)

I never blanched my cucumber, but I took off the skin because you cannot be sure what has been sprayed on the veggies by the store. I would think that you wouldnt have to worry about softening the cucumber for the fish, since that will happen pretty quickly in the tank. Wouldnt want to drop it in there hot either I suppose.

If I remember right, most omnivores should be able to eat it. I noticed some of my platties loved it while others stayed away. Must be a personality type thing.

I feed peas quite often. I put a few (3-4)in a cup, blanche them in boiling water for a few minutes, take the skins off and then push them through a garlic press. This makes them just the right size. Some sink, some float, so they are ideal for bottom and top feeders.
