Crypto Roots...vertical Bound?

Quick question for ya'll. Do crypto roots normally grow vertically? I'm sure there are roots in the substrate but this has been a question for a little bit now. I haven't been able to determine if they're roots or new plants.

Its normal. don't know why that happens. not roots though the roots of Crypts are bright white
