Hey guy i recently bought Some crushed coral in order to raise my ph(it's around 6) as don't trust the Ph up stuff etc from what i've read here.

The problem i have is that i have an ADF in the tank just now :( the little soldier is doing fine there just now thankfully :) however, i would like to gradually raise the ph to around 7.5 while he is in there without shocking him..

I have a 10g tank with a gravel subtrate so how much could i add gradually?

cheers
Dave

What fish do you plan to keep that you need the pH at 7.5. That is actually outside the optimal range for most tropical community fish. Most tetras, danios, rasboras, corys, etc. prefer slightly acidic water. The info I found on ADFs shows a range of 6.5 to 7.5 so he would be on the edge of his optimal range.

hey thanks for the quick reply rdd :) The fish i'm looking at is ottos guppies and my adf :)

THe LFS said 7.5 ph for guppies? i reckon in the range of 7-7.5 so 7.3?

Dave

For guppies, I have seen every thing from 5.5 to 8.0 for pH range. You can pretty much keep them in any pH and they will be fine.

It won't hurt to raise it. Just monitor how much it comes up. It really doesn't take a lot to raise the pH.

cool :) i'll add half a tablespoon or so? i don't want to give my froggie ph shock so bit at a time like half a table spoon a day?~

Oh forgot to mention i have moapi wood i took out recently as it lowered the ph.. i would like that in the tank too so i'll put that in with the crushed coral :)

cheers

You might be surprised to find that 1/2 teaspoon is all you need for a 10 gallon tank. It really doesn't take much. I would add it and then wait a few days to see where the pH goes before adding any more.
