I saw this on Ebay and thought cruel to have 4 male bettas in it permanently? I thought for a better life 3-5 gallons each is a minimum. Or are my persceptions wrong?

I thought this product did look good though for when me and my parnter would like to try breeding and need to start separating the agressive ones out of the main tank that they would be in. He will be getting a male betta in the next month or so and I am looking into getting a pair of the peace bettas as I think they are pretty.

3-5 gallons is the minumun them thing are tiny and it would be cruel to keep a fish in that the beta would bearly be able to turn round
and if you going to start breeding them your going to need to do alot of research and its not cheap

We would not breed for a good long time and don't worry will do lots of research into before diving. it is a fanciful notion for future prospects as an interest in a relatively new hobby. We would want to settle in with our first male and then additions (in different tanks!) of females and more males later. It is a shame as Ebay is flooded with products like these and gives full impression these can contain bettas happily - I would only look at as a short term or emergency measure.

Those are useful for temporarily separating fish. They float in the main tank and cannot be used as a tank in itself as there are holes all over for water to flow through.

My brother has one which I used to separate one of my bettas when I discovered one of my females was a PK male. He was fine for a few days while I set up a separate 5 gallon tank for him.

It was also useful for introducing the female I got to replace him and bring the numbers back up in my group of girls. By putting her in the trap for a week, they could all get used to eachother without any squabbling or fin nipping.

In both of those cases I simply removed all of the partitions ( they slide out ) to give the bett as much space as possible while I got things sorted.

I think they are a useful thing to have in an emergency.

hmmm.definately for emergencies! Our current situation is a bucket if something was to go wrong, so would want a small petco thing with filter or this perhaps in a main tank. I am still a learner so do forigve my ramblings and thoughts, it is great to get experienced fishkeepers views and proper keeping! That Ipond really does seem awful, I have never seen one in the UK but that does not seem a bad thing.

P.S. To mod edit on first post - very sorry it has only just occurred to me about that being wrong (advertising?) did not mean to, please forgive

The biggest size plastic critter keeper,( 14.5 inches x 8.8 x 9.8 , which is around 5 gallons ) or a clear plastic storage bin ( they go up to about 17 gallons ) will work better than a bucket. Easier to attach a heater and filter to *good*
