I am planing to cross a albino koi swordtail with a red eye red lyertail swordtail   , I think that is what you call it. Now I am not all that good with determining genes but does anyone have any idea of what the out come would be.
Here are some pics of both fish

albino koi swordtail

I will use a male albino koi and a female red eye. Also to you think a male of the red eye type would be able to breed?

There's no way to tell exactly what colors you will see. You may get a fish that looks more like one parent than the other, or you may end up with a complete mix. I'm not sure about the fin shape either. That is a gorgeous fish up top. How large is the tank. Rainbows get really large.

The pic of the red lyertail swordtail is over a year old. The fish in the pic die during a outbreak of velvet a couple months ago :-(, She was my favorite fish. She was in the 55 gal with the rainbows, but I often had trouble with her cuz the current was too strong for her and she would have a hard time swimming around. Today I was actually able to track down some more, I will be going to get 2 females on Saturday. They will be going in my 20 gal planted tank. We will see how they do I have bought 4 of these fish and she was the only one to live past two weeks. It was surprising when I first got her she looked basically like a normal lyertail swordtail, but then her fins just kept growing. I can't count how many times guests called her a betta :X  .

Her is a pic of the same red eye sword when I first got her.

Her again about a 6 months later

Here is a video of her as well

Firstly you have to start with a virgin female to make sure that the male you using is the true farther.
Also a common problem with lyertail males is the gonopodium are elongated and impossible to breed naturally so u have to use a male with a normal gonopodium from breeding.

As for the gene's your working with two fish that are very recessive so that you still get albino's but what else not a clue.

I'll be interested to see what fry you get.

I recently crossed an albino koi female (identical to yours) with a marigold male.

I now have about 40 fry but I can't tell how they will turn out as yet - currently a browny red colour but with no koi markings.

Good luck.

I am pretty sure the two females I am getting will be virgin. When I have seen them at the store they are usually in a tank with only other lyertail swords, and from the looks of the male red eyes it doesn't look like they can breed. So I will be crossing a female red eye lyertail with a male albino koi swordtail with normal fins.

Also any idea on what size a batch of fry would be from these two fish, cuz I know albinos tend to have small batches?

thanks,

brood size could be anything rearly, just treat the female to plenty of live foods and high quality flake food.

The Koi marking is a recessive trait. In your first generation you will get all solid red's but if you then breed them back to another koi you should get some solids and some kois in the second generation.

My albino koi broodsize is usually very, very small. Make sure you have a ton of fry cover available, mine are terrible fry eaters.

That was a really lovely red hifin lyretail female.

Good luck!

Both red eye red and koi are recessive gene's, which i've already stated, other than saying they should be albino you cound get anything from just a mix of both to a right jumble (although no black as their albino.)
