Cross Breeding

ive just purchased some beautiful female guppies and i was wondering if they could be cross bread at all. Also if they can cross breed what other fish would they breed with? and would you say it was a responsible/safe thing to do?

Cross bred with what? Other guppies is the answer. And any time you try to breed a new species is, IMO, very irresponsible and careless. Just my opinion.

i heard someone mention some fish can cross breed if kept together thats all. I appreciate your views although i know from a few personal experiences that accidental cross bread dogs lead much healthier and longer lives. that is why i asked. I know we are on a fish forum but i would have thought nature follows the same rules whatever animal. Im not interested in hybrids but just thought it would be interesting to see the outcome. Thanks for your reply much appreciated.

Cross breeding dogs and guppies is the same thing, as they all come from 1 species in the first place. You can take any guppy and breed them together.

As for crossing species, this is what you see today with most Endlers, I've still yet to see a true endler in a shop. Their all guppy crosses.
Guppies can also cross with several other species, one being the molly. Crosses are very rare and fry are not strong, 80-90% mortality rates is very common, then the fry are generally infertile as well.

Stick to Guppy types as you get some interesting colours expressed.

may just do that thank you for the info. I was considering mixing and letting nature take its course but i wanted to at least give any fry a fighting chance. If the ones that survive cant breed that tells me its not meant to be and so would be irresponsible of me. Looks like mixing guppies then. Thank you all guys for your views on this.
