My Juwel polystyrene 3D background. These will be low-lighting plants like anubias nana for example. Could I just tie a plant weight around them and stick the plant weight into the polystyrene? How would the roots manage? Any ideas welcome - also any other suggestions for plants would be great, i.e. any kids of moss? Rootless plants perhaps - are there any? Thanksx

Yes tie the plant to something then silicone it onto b/g. The roots will attach to anything, take some getting off aswell!

any anubias, java fern, java moss, flame moss, xmas moss... any moss really. :hyper:

(im not stalking you, i swear) :p

i'm stalking her

i am interested in the same kind of thing, so let me hijack this for you Mermaid...

whats the best way to attach small bits of Java Fern to bog wood?

MERMAID: you are on the right track with Anubia, they are great, mine look fantastic, everyone i have purchased has done well, i dont have co2, i can speak highly of Java Fern, although not as reliable as my Anubia.

Have you bought the Anubia? I find it expensive but worth it, I bought loads from Crews Hill a while back, about £5 each in posts and i spent about £40 on it, been well worth it

Also, get Moss Balls!!!

Matt you so are stalking me :p

OK I can't silicone to the b/g cos it's already wet in the tank, hence I thought about sticking the metal weights into it instead

Thanks for the input... Fry Lover [Alex is it???] I already have moss balls, they rock. Try Ebay for cheaper plants.
Oh and p.s. you can join the stalking crew, get in line :p

My ferns are doin good, i drilled holes in swahalla wood and stuffed the roots in that. it works, my fish pull em out sumtimes so i just put them bak in.

I am sure it was my uncle who said you can get silicone that sets in water or am i dreaming again....

Mel - How about using some cotton and a needle and threading it through the background and over the roots? That's an idea I had when I had a 3d backgorund, although mine was a foamy kinda material so it would have been easy to get a needle through, not sure how tough the background you have will be.

Fry_lover I've found elastic bands are the easiest way to keep java fern on wood, I fiddled about with cotton tied it on nice and tight, put it in the tank, 5 mins later the java fern was floating. With elastic bands by the time they are going to snap from wearing away the roots should have become firmly attached.
