Very little of the people who are currently on here posting may remember me. But to get to the point of this post I'll just start out with explaining what I have.

Aquariums: 3 (two 10 gallon aquariums) (one 15 gallon aquarium)
Type of fish: Guppies
Breeding: Red/white/Blue/Rainbow/Cobras

Info: What I'm trying to do is create (red white and blue) guppies but only to receive these rainbow colored guppies. They look like an actual breed, I don't doubt that they are a breed. But I keep trying with the American Patriotic Guppy. In one tank I have nothing but Red white and blue rocks with plants and the babies of the guppies. In the other tanks which are the 10 gallons I have nothing but female rainbow guppies with one male guppy. The male guppy looks better then the Red/blue/white guppies, it looks very fancy. But again I'm trying to create the (Red_white_blue) guppy... Any suggestions? I've tried mixing them. Btw all the mess ups go straight to the 160 gallon tank in the living room... :byebye:

Don't know what to do :dunno:

its not impossible to do wat ur trying to do. lol if u pull this of u might make a good deal of money on this to. :D U'v just gota understand guppy genetics. u cant just breed red whit and blu guppys togeather and get red whit and blu babys lol.

lol gl man

Getting a book on fish genetics and experimenting with stock should help you out.

Also, if you could obtain wild and captive bred guppies, that would also help.

that link is about a game or something?
anyone know more about that game?
(sorry that I'm not helpful on this thread)

has something to do with aquazone(aquazone.com), i believe. It was the wrong link but it could be helpful :*)
Try this link.

LOL, I'm going to try to pull it off by repeating the same action over and over until I get almost similar looking ones, then I'll just keep breeding those and if they go stray I'll just start mixing them with the solid colored ones to give them back the color. lol... Thanks for the advice and info/websites

You should look up guppy genetics online. You have to figure out if the pattern that you are trying to get is dominant or recessive. If its dominant and you continually breed the same color together then you will end up with a lot of guppies that don't show the coloration that you want.

If I remember my high school biology lessons on genetics correctly then this example should be ok. If your red white and blue coloration is then represent dominance with a capital letter for example R for dominance of the red/white/blue. If you have a purebred guppy it would be RR (meaning that it is purebred) if its not purebred then it would be Rr (lower case r representing th recessive colors). So if you breed two non pure guppies (though they would both look pure because the dominant trait always shows if its there) Rr X Rr then 25% would be pure 50% would be Rr and 25% would show the recessive trait. Its hard to explain sorry! Its easier to use that method to get recessive traits but its the best help I can give. Its been awhile since I have had to use any of my high school biology!
