Hi ,
Can anyone tell me some methods of making elevations in their tanks ? What i mean is such things as mounds . I dont want to just slope my substrate up towards the back of the tank but just make some lumps and bumps so that it doesnt look all flat . The problems that are my concern are that if i just make a mound of substrate then after a while it will just collapse , but i really want to plant these mounds with riccia or preferably glosso . So if anyone has got any good ideas of how i can get around this please feel free to let me know . Many thanks :)

Not really a mound, but I built a set of caves and a slate barrier to hold back the gravel using slate tiles, slate chippings from B&Q and aquarium safe sealant. Looks like this:

And installed...

You can build levels or terraces by having your initial layer of substrate, then putting either a bit of bogwood or large rock on top and filling behind that rock with gravel so you have a kind of step.

I think i should have explained what type of substrate i got so that it will be easier for you guys to help me . Iam using eco complete and it is a fairly fine grade of gravel , because of this i was thinking that it wont stay in place for long especially whith two L134's sniffing around at lights out ! But "fishy mad" thats a great rock formation you got going on there mate . As the plants start to grow over it in your tank it will look awsome !!!
Any further help guys will be great . Thanks
