Crazy Roots?

Hi All,

I noticed my Java fern and crypts have been developing some crazy roots recently, just wondering if anyone has an thoughts as to why? The java fern in particular isn't doing very well, lots of plantlets and tones of very fluffy roots but few new leaves.

Thoughts?

I notice some holes in or two leaves as well. Are you fertilising the water column?

Maybe roots are being thrown out in search of more nutrients, leaving the plants with less enrgy for growing.
