Any body have any Pseudotropheus acei? I put them in my tank in febuary at about 1" whilst all the others went in in december. When the acei were introduced all the others were about 2". Now out of all the fish in my sig(even the morrii/blue dolphins that reach 8") they are the biggest fish in there at 4" and have not yet spawned wheras all the others have.
Anybody else experienced this fast growth rate with this fish or any other mbuna?

Hi Ginge,

I have noticed this myself with Acei, I was worried about mine (white-tailed) when i added him as he was only about 3" and the rest were mature adults but he soon caught them up.

The only species i have noticed that grow even faster are Melanochromis Chipokae, these guys seem to go from juvie to adult in about a week.

 i also had the same consernes its really wierd i think as its not like they are the biggest fully grown mbuna around infact relativly small.

The reason the other fish don't grow as quickly is that as soon as they start breeding, their growth slows down. As they use their energy for breeding and growing, instead of just growing, therefore they grow slower.
