I have had my angels for maybe a month. Almost immediately, they started fleshing out territory and dominance. I have 1 Silver, 2 Silver Ghosts and 2 Zebra Lace angels.

Very early on, the silver paired up with one of the ghosts and they spawned on the side of a breeding net. The silver is the female, the ghost is the male. Very predictably, they ate the eggs overnight. This was 2 weeks ago.

Last Sunday, as the angels paired up again, this time, it was the 2 silver ghosts who spawned. This time, they laid their eggs on some driftwood in the middle of the tank. The silver, the original female was very put out. The fry hatched and have been wriggling away. The silver female who was NOT involved with this spawning was getting swollen with eggs and her breeding tube was all the way out.

Today, I came home from work and the fry have been moved to the side of the breeding net and there is another clutch of eggs, right above them on the side of the net! Now, it's the 2 females guarding the fry and the eggs and they won't let the male near! I have no idea if this new batch has been fertilized.

The 2 zebra lace angels are just steering clear of the whole ordeal and aren't involved at all.

Crazy thing is, I spent a good 2-3 years obsessed with trying to breed SOMETHING. GBRs, angels, kribs, whatever. The only fish I got to successfully spawn were the kribs. This time, I was converting back to a freshwater tank after having a saltwater tank for about 2 years and I just wanted a low maintenance, no fuss angel centered community tank. Murphy's law of fish raising!

congratulation to start with :) my angels have just paired i think and i hope they will lay eggs soon :), i think the colour of the eggs is the only way you can tell if they have been fertilised, either yellow/white colour or a kinda clear i think, sorry but I'm not 100% sure if my facts are accurate but I'm guessing the white/yellow would be the fertilised eggs, but i know the angels are very territorial when breeding i am surprised the two females rant fighting each other :)

gd luck and hope you have menu baby angels soon :D

White eggs would be the unfertilized ones while darker brown to orange would be viable eggs.\Congrats on the pair(s) lol

Thanks for the input! I had just never heard of a male mating with 2 different females, let alone the females chasing said male off and guarding the fry/eggs on their own. I guess we'll see how it plays out. I am going to try and catch the fry in the breeding net when they start free swimming just to see what I can do with them. I have no interest in breeding or fry tanks so we'll just see how things pan out.

well thats one lucky male ;) na thats brilliant congrats :) thnx mark for correcting me :D, i now know what to look for in myself :D

I don't know how lucky he is, the females want nothing to do with him and keep chasing him away from the eggs/fry!

Tank lights aren't on yet this morning but the fry all seem to be there, and most of the eggs...
