Hey,
I got 2 baby crayfish today and wondering if anyone had any "tidbits" on keeping them?

They will need a MUCH bigger tank when they mature a bit. :good:

Eat most things. Literaly. Bloodworms, flake, algea tabs, any fish they can catch.

Give them LOTS of hiding places.

When they shed their skin, leave it in there for a few days. They usually eat it, which gives them extra calcium.

I live in illinois, so it wouldnt be worth the trip. Go to petsmart, look in their tank with the filddler crabs in it, and you will see lots of crayfish, ask them for them, and there you go. Thanks for the offer though.

Id rather not, but once again, thanks for the offer. You must have a petsmart somewhere( all of the ones i've been 2 have had crayfish!!!!!!!). Anyone got any tips?

Hard, clean water. Slightly alkaline. Plenty of space. Cool water no more than 25dgressC. Provide a balanced diet of blanched vegetables and meety foods like muscles, prawns, bloodworms.

Thanks!!!!!! Right now, the water is at 78 degree's. I feed them feeder's adn spirulina pellets. Sorry but i dont remeber how to change farienhiet to celecious( spelleing?).

It's 20g for every Crayfish. No other things should be in the tank besides gravel and rocks. No fish or plants. Do not leave thermometers high in the tank or leave the Filter tube in the tank at night. The Crayfish will climb out with ease from any holes in the tank.

This is how it is set up.
10 Bare Bottom
A piece of slate in the middle
10 inches of water( around that)
A 100watt submersible heater, that is suction cupped to the bottom of the tank
A filter made made out of a fish food contanier, standning up right.

Me too.

So instead of do's and don'ts, just be prepared. Tape up the holes at the back of your tank, so they can't escape.

I've found my crays walking across the living room until I stopped them getting out.
They are mostly vegetarian, and will eat plants as well as use them as ladders, so no problem as long as there's no way out.
They will eat dead fish, but their mouth parts are so small, they can't and won't catch, kill and eat your fish.
They may nip them if they get too close, but I am not concerned about that.

I had a crayfish catch a completely healthy kribenis female before( i came in the room to find her missing her tail and trying to swim away( he was a monster cray though). I have also noticed that im now out of feeders. I was tempted to put them in w/ my con's, but would they eat the cray fish? I cant put them in w/ the angels, as they will mow down the plant's!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
