So, I was looking through websites at Google.com and other websites for good tank's for bettas. I dont want to get a bowl or anything that isn't going to let the betta swim around, but I noticed a website. It was showing bettas in a "whole-sale" company. Just a bunch of bettas inside cups. I notice it is the same at places like Petco and Wal-mart. Honestly, when I look at these betta's they look miserable. I believe I saw a guy hold up a styrofoam cup with a betta inside as though he was so proud. How would he want to live inside a closet. I want to buy them all and get them each a 5 gallon tank for themselves...but doesn't look like that's going to happen any time soon.

Yeah it's really terrible to come across things like that. Unfortunately it's all too common. I share your frustration. I wish I could buy them all up too, but all we can do is buy the ones we can, and make a better life for them.

I know what you mean. It pisses me off so bad!

The other day I saw a girl saying, " It looks so happy"

I'm like what the flip man? you cant see his caudal fin that good, and it looked like he had dropsy. I told her that it probably had some diseases, and she said "what are you a fish expert?"then rolled her eyes I was like hell yeah I am, and I was like a betta needs just as much room as other fish do!

Boy I was mad when she bought one of those little tiny betta tanks.

Sorry for the language, it just makes me so freakin mad that people don't take care of their fish.

I remember someone told me that a betta wouldn't like to live in a larger tank, it prefers a smaller tank, like a 1 gallon or at most a 2 gallon. But if you keep them in larger tanks than that, they will be very very unhappy and possibly die sooner.

i think it just depends on the betta you have. Some don't like the larger areas, while some do. My boys seem happy in their smaller tanks..... but I'm sure some would prefer larger ones, while others may prefer what they are in.

Its true that some fish do prefer larger tanks than smaller ones. But I mean after telling this to how ever many people walk into that store every year who ask about bettas, imagine how many of them live in small tanks, jars, or even cups. But I have noticed, since I started my own tank, that every fish has its own personality. Especially with betta's being more aggressive.

I think for a betta living in a small cup such as they do in walmart, it'd be like being in jail or worse. Noticed alot of fish here in O'FALLON Illinois dead at petco, walmart and petsmart do to there living conditions. Have seen them in just a ffew inches of water--dirty water at that, it's a shame they can't at least clean them out daily---think if they want to sell them they should at least take care of them. However, I guess when money is the issue (making money that is)---money and buisness comes first before taking care of a living creature.
