Hi, My DT Betta Ani is pineconing he has fungus on his face and he is really bloated red(he is turquoise)...what should i do help me!! Ps. i lost my digicamara my web cam sux so i cant take pics

Well dunno if this is appropriate, but my GOLDfish had this, and i added some salt crystals i bought form the pet shop, believe it or not it was cured within 24 hours!

=S ime bettas + dropsy = disaster =[ Id add some aquarium salt for now and ask your lfs or look up on the internet for a good dropsy or some fungus medicine I forgot the name of this really good one I heard of >.<

There is no TRUE, KNOWN cure for dropsy, if it is indeed dropsy. There are things that people swear by, but, if it is dropsy, and you're going to try to cure him, you're going to have to move fast.

First, what do you have on hand?

Some people recommend using epsom salt baths. I don't know absolutely for sure what the dosage on that should be, but have been told that maybe it should 1 tbsp for 5 gallons, same as aquarium salt.

Some people swear by colloidal silver as a cureall for every possible ailment...if you can find it. I think it's wuvmybetta that uses the stuff.

Some sites recommend immediately getting the Betta on antibiotics like Tetracycline.

Whatever you do, clean water is a must. Sterilize everything, and let nothing you use (including your hands) come into contact with any of your other fish at this point. May not be contagious, but there is no point in risking it.

I wish you the best of luck, and I hope the little guy pulls through.

I'm offering you two links to Bettas with dropsy posts from the past, in hopes that the advice offered there will help you now.

one : i am Anti meds no mater inhumane that sounds salt killed gussy.
2: salt doesnt help dropsy it makes the water in the body worse/bloated worse.

i forgot Ani has half of his anal fin torn off not to mention he is a gender blunder we all belive he was a runt male but i saw a pic that looked JUST like him labeld female. Due to bloatedness he has always been gender confused i nam not sure if he is a she or not. he s pretty much a mess. i cant do anything for this fish he lookes horrible. he cant even swim right . all i can do is wish it away and that wont work..i cant put him to sleep until he has dropsy for sure because my mom loves that fish she made me buy it so its pretty much her responsibility. he is only in a one gallon i forgot that . we have low space the biggest tank i have iis being used by my hamster who recked it. now i dont know what to do..i really want to get this fish put to sleep.

ps. Is dropsy contagious??

No dropsy isn't very contagious at all; the 3 main causes of it are bad water conditions, over-feeding and internal bacterial infections but for most people it is usually one of the second 2.

I would go do a 50% water change and buy some internal bacterial med by Interpet and some small algae wafers; treat the tank with the med and try and feed him some vegetable based foods like the algae wafer of de-shelled cooked peas.
Cut down/stop feeding on any meaty/high protein foods you are feeding him as constipation usually causes dropsy or happens after the fish gets it and this will only make his condition worse. He may not like the vegetable based foods at first so try and encourage him to eat them by cutting down on other foods- it is for his own good after all.
Other than that, just feed him the odd fish flake every day and try and keep his water quality as good as posible(remembering to replace med in the water) and hopefully his condition will start to improve after a week or so- you will know his condition is improving because the dropsy will halt in its progress although not nesarsarily retreat for a while, when he does get over it the improvement will be very fast.
Good luck

Hi 50,000_tears

I hate to have to say this, but if your betta is in the advanced state of dropsy that you describe, it probably won't pull through. :X

Kanamycin, an antibiotic, is often the drug of choice for this illness, and for the bacterial infection you think of as fungus. If you wish to keep trying to cure this fish, it might be worth a try, but keep in mind that it works best when administered in the early stages.

Sorry for your loss, R.I.P.

Sorry to hear that... :rip: Ani.

I'm sure he had a great life with you (and your mum). :)
