I seen some really cool crab at my lfs and I was curious as if they could live with any other fish.
i used to have two Red claw crabs, a male and female, even with the area requirements per crab they fought a lot, but it was probably due to their species temperament and the only way to surface was on the same log.
anyways MOST (99%) of crabs sold in a lfs are brackish crabs,(petco just recently switched their redclaw and fiddler tanks to brackish thank god. freshwater crabs don't reproduce like sea crabs and ergo there are fewer of them with less diversity due to non connected lakes, in fact most are endangered.
fish compatible with crabs are those with short fins, less likely to get nipped at. and fish that arent bottom feeders or rest on the bottom often. But the larger your tank they more compatible fish and crabs become. I would personally go towards a crustacean that doesnt need to surface, such as a shrimp or if your tank is huge then a crayfish, that is because since they dont surface, they will have less area they can move to get a fish. But id avoid Red claws all together. they are boring, fight, and hide, hence the boring.
alot of lfs carry red claws so if you do get one i suggest two females with 1 sqrft of space each or one male with the same area. also my reddies looooved sliced carrots
P.S. just found this video, as you can see a redclaw has no problem killing.. found a fishy, ate the fishy.
