hi all

i covicts have just breed and are now raising the fry, not sure how old they are, maybe a day or 2 at most,

how good of parents are they?

would it be ok to remove some of the fry and put in breeding net?

there must be a couple of hundred fry, i do want to keep a few for myself, they are in my main tank with all my other fish

thx

Convicts are great parents but in a mixed tank even they might struggle to stop the fry from being eaten,
It would be fine to put them in a breeding tank; get them on baby brineshrimp and crushed flake and they should do great.

If you remove fry to raise them in fry tank make sure you leave a few fry behind for the parents to continue raising. Otherwise the mle will want to breed again immediately and attack maybe even injure the female if she's not ready or willing to breed just yet.

I left my cons to raise their own fry, after around 12 days I had to remove the male as he started to eat the young, I removed the female the day after as she started to eat them.
